Philippians: 117 Love

“But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defense of the gospel.” Philippians 1:17

Some were moved to action from envy and strife. Some from love.

What moves you and me?

What is our motivation?
What holds our dedication?
What ties our heart strings fast to God,
And draws us to salvation?

What forms the fiber of our souls?
And lays the start to plans and goals?
What is the earth from which we grow,
As grew the frogs from small tadpoles?

Is selfishness the root and start
That fills our mind and soul and heart?
Or could it be a purer spring
From which our character takes part?

The highest, purest, deepest well
From which our actions ought to swell,
So simple, yet profound and broad:
'Tis love alone that must compel.
